The Mariemont Inn

The Best Hotel in Cincinnati and Great Finds Downtown

Cincinnati is referred to by many as the Queen City after Henry Wadsworth Longfellow named it so in a poem, which covered the beauty of the Ohio River and the town’s charm. To date, the city is beloved for a number of reasons- especially how the old charm has been so well blended with modern times. The Mariemont Inn is notably one of the best hotels in Cincinnati, along with the best surrounding activities, that most people mistakenly overlook.

The founder of the village, Mary Emery, used her fortune to fund creating Mariemont to be a “National Exemplar” town. She even hired an internationally known town planner to make sure her vision was executed flawlessly and that it would be one of the best places to stay in Cincinnati. When you stay at the Inn, you will truly have the feeling of going back in time to a place that is intentionally designed to foster a deep sense of community and joy, creating the foundation to be one of the great hotels in Cincinnati.

Cincy Brew Bus

If you haven’t been on a Cincy Brew Bus yet, you are doing yourself an injustice. The bus is in business Thursday through Sunday, charging $50 – $65 per person for drinking tickets and $25 – $30 per person for non-drinking tickets. Founded in 2013, the Cincy Brew Bus was intended to infuse knowledge of local beer and other drinks to those who not only enjoyed the taste but also looked forward to being more knowledgeable of their beloved favorite drink. There are three distinct buses: the premier craft brewery wagon, winery tours, and the bourbon distilling tasting tours. The tour takes you to four breweries where you get to sample their drinks at each stop before heading to a Servatii Bavarian soft pretzel and getting a behind-the-scenes tour. The crew spends 3 to 5 hours at each stop to give all participants the chance for a proper tour, enough time for tasting as well as all the time to ask questions. What makes the tour interesting is not only the trip to those happy places but also the quizzes from the beeristas and founders about Cincy’s beers and bourbon. It is full of fun and adventure for both locals and visitors to the city.

Carew Tower Observation Deck

In the heart of downtown Cincinnati is Carew Tower, the second tallest building in Cincinnati. On the 49th floor is the viewing deck that allows you the best sight of the city below. The observation deck is only open on specific hours and days: Monday to Thursday, 9:00 a.m. till 5:30 p.m.; Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.; then Saturday and Sunday, 10:00 to 7:00 PM. The Carew Tower, completed in 1930, houses 25 shops, restaurants, and other amenities. At the top just before you get to the observation tower is a souvenir gift shop for all your treasure hunts. This observation deck is one of a kind and being in one of the tallest buildings in the city, gives you the best view of what lies below. It is a great hangout for visitors and residents of Queen City.

National Underground Railroad Freedom Center

History is a critical part of our lives and it is upon us to impact knowledge on future generations so they know where they are coming from. The National Underground Railroad Freedom Center is dedicated to keeping the voices of freedom fighters alive since its inception. Since 2004, the center has welcomed voices of those seeking more knowledge on slavery, colonialism, and other issues that are important for the understanding of ancient America. Located by the banks of the Ohio River, the center is open to everyone and stays open from Tuesday to Saturday. Charges are Adults: $15, Seniors 60+: $13, Children ages 3-12: $10.50, Children under 3 enter free. Groups have special charges as per the website. One more thing that the center offers: genealogy. You get to trace your family tree for free through help offered by the attendants at the center. You don’t have to make reservations as walk-ins are welcome. The volunteers will use the information you give – such as names of ancestor, folklore, or anything associated with your family – to trace your family tree. Lots of fun an information.

The Haunted Tour

Is the Queen City haunted? If you like horror stories and would like to learn stories of grisly murders and other disturbing facts about Cincinnati, then this tour should be on your list. It is only held on Saturdays and lasts 60-90 minutes. In this time, you visit some horrifying caves, walk around human remains and even get to learn about the Witch of Washington Park. Tickets range between $25 and $35 depending on what you want to achieve. The $35 ticket caters to intimate groups and allows for a more thorough tour. The only downside to this tour is that it is not wheelchair-accessible yet there are some stairs to climb.

Food Tour Cincinnati

Food tour anyone? For $55 per person, you can be part of a streetcar with plenty of food options around the city as well as a beer or wine. You also get to mingle with other foodies and exchange ideas. They have private tours too but the calendar is only available if you contact them for more information. Also, you can imagine the number of food lovers there is in the city and so it’s imperative to book in advance.
